Use These Easy Comic Book Storage Ideas and Leave the Hard Job to Batman

You don’t need super strength or Spidey-senses to store your comic books like a super hero! Properly storing your comic books will ensure future generations get to enjoy comic books just the way our generation has. There are many different options when it comes to comic book storage, and the best solution for you depends on how much you want to spend and how much your collection is worth. If you have a rare or first edition comic book, you may want to consider a more expensive storage unit option.

Comic Book Storage Unit Tip Number One: Bag and Board

Bag and Board: Bagging and boarding will keep your comic books in the best shape possible. When bagging your comic books, be sure to buy a bag corresponding with the year of the book, as different years require different sized bags. Storing your comic books in properly sized bags will reduce the chance of them being damaged over time.

According to BCW, a company that specializes in memorabilia storage products, if your comic book was produced from 1970 to the present, it is within the current/modern age. Comic books within the current/modern age will need bags sized 6 7/8” X 10 ½”. Comic books produced between 1956 to 1969 are considered to be within the regular/silver age and require bags sized from 7 1/8” X 10 ½” or 7 ¼” X 10 ½”, depending on the comic book. Comic books produced between 1938 and 1955 are categorized as being in the Golden Age. Comic books from the Golden Age require bags sized 7 5/8”X 10 ½”. When in doubt, measure the comic book to determine what size of bag is needed.

When storing, placing a piece of cardboard or another approved material, behind the comic book will prevent the pages of your comic book from bending, ripping or being destroyed overtime. Before using the board make sure it is acid-free, as acid can damage the pages of the book.

Comic Book Storage Tip Number Two: Self Storage

To best keep your comic books out of harm’s way, store your comic books in a comic book storage box. If you’re in a crunch, a typical cardboard box is better than nothing, but utilizing a box specified for comic book storage will be your best bet as they tend to be sturdier boxes. Comic book boxes come in two different sizes: short boxes and long boxes. Depending on the thickness of the comic books, short comic book boxes can hold between 150 to 175 comic books. Long boxes can hold between 200 and 225.

Comic Book Storage Tip Number Three: Self Storage

Over time, humidity and moisture will ruin your comic book collection. If you don’t have a place to store your comic books that is out of the elements, consider using a self-storage unit. At StorPlace Self Storage, we have heated and cooled storage units, maintaining a temperature range between 60 and 80 degrees, perfect for storing your comic books.
