Stones River National Battlefield

Visitors highly praise Stones River National Battlefield's maintained gardens and educational tours. Reviews often talk about the battlefield’s educational value and the park rangers' expertise.

Among the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, the Battle of Stones River started on the last day of 1862. The fight permanently altered the people who lived and fought here and brought the Union significant military and political victories.

Cost: There may be a charge for some special events and programs, but park admission is free.

Why Go?

This historic site honors a pivotal Civil War engagement. A national cemetery, a tourist center with displays, and several walking paths let you explore the battlefield. The park offers quiet, introspective areas and deep insight into American history.

Cannonsburgh Village

Cannonsburgh Village is celebrated for its accurate reproduction of a pioneer village back in the 1830s. Visitors appreciate its authenticity and the range of old structures and relics.

Cost: There is no admission charge, but donations are welcome to help with village upkeep. The Visitor Center has plenty of items for sale, including postcards, T-shirts, snacks, drinks, and souvenirs.

Why Go?

With its collection of ancient structures, which includes a general shop, schoolhouse, and gristmill, Cannonsburgh Village transports you back in time. Discovering the early years of Murfreesboro and the surrounding area is easy here.

Oakland Mansion

Oaklands Mansion's exquisitely kept interiors and educational guided tours have earned it high praise. Many guests compliment the informed guides for their ability to depict the mansion's past vividly.

Cost: You will have to book a reservation. Adult admission is $15; seniors (65+) and retired miliary/active are charged $12; and students are charged $10. Youngsters five years old and younger get in free.

The historical relevance of the Mansion stems from 1814 to 1872 when the Maney family owned this land. In May 1872, for the sum of $5,000, Dr. James Maney sold 20 acres to the City of Murfreesboro "for a cemetery." Included in the land were the slaves’ burial place of the Maney Family Plantation.
